§ 2-8. Medical examiner

  • (a) The office of medical examiner is created pursuant to Wis. Stats. § 59.34. The position of medical examiner shall be appointed by the county board chair with the approval of the county board.

    (b) The office of medical examiner shall have all the powers and duties as listed under Wis. Stats. § 59.34(1) and Wis. Stats. ch. 979, and such position shall be filled with an individual who is qualified as an expert witness in the field of pathology.

    (c) The salary for such position shall be as fixed by the county, with an additional amount placed into the medical examiner's budget for the purpose of compensating the services of deputy medical examiner appointed at the discretion of the medical examiner.

    (d) The medical examiner shall impose a fee in the amount of $50.00 for each cremation authorization issued, and such fee and any other fee generated by the office of medical examiner shall be handled in accordance with Wis. Stats. § 59.35.
